Disinfecting for Coronavirus

What is Coronavirus?

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that are common in many different species of animals, including camels, cattle, swine, cats, and bats. Rarely, animal coronaviruses can infect people and then spread between people such as with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), and now with SARS-CoV-2 (SARS Coronavirus 2).

Many cases of SARS-CoV-2 (SARS Coronavirus 2) have been reported across the world, including the United States. These viruses can cause a range of symptoms, including a fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion, or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea. Some cases are mild, like the common cold, while others may lead to pneumonia and death.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) lists the most common way of spreading the Coronaviruses is by respiratory transmission from person to person, happening among close contacts through coughs and sneezes. This is similar to how influenza and other respiratory pathogens spread.
